Our seven spacious rooms have recently been transformed—yet pay homage to their Victorian era roots, with furnishings in harmony with today’s amenities: plush bedding, towels and robes; high speed internet, smart TVs, and more. Both your bedroom and bathroom are thoughtfully designed, with locally sourced lotions, soaps, shampoos, and conditioners from Kingston’s own Thousand Island Soap Company.

Alfred Bader, a self-described “chemist-collector,” was also a philanthropist and devoted alumnus of Queen’s University. After escaping his native Austria during WWII, he became a dedicated scholar—and, eventually, art collector.

Today, the Bader Collection at Queen’s is one of the finest in Canada. This room, a favorite of the university’s guests, is named after Dr. Alfred Bader and his wife, Isabel—in whose name many works of art have been donated.

The inspiration for the room is Indigo: “the deep blue contains an abundance of sapphires shining their light through the density, awakening and stirring our consciousness.” (Jennifer Lynch, director and screenwriter).

In 1888, leather merchant and furrier John McKay built the house at 73 Sydenham Street, christening it Argyle Place. This room was the original master suite of the single family home—where the McKays lived for three generations.

The Coverdale room includes:

The room is decorated in vibrant, varying shades of blue, reflecting the sky behind the spires. “How sweet to be a cloud…Floating in the blue!” (A.A. Milne)

From the late 1600’s when explorers first navigated the local waterways and into the 1800’s when Fort Henry was designed and built, limestone was the building material of choice in the greater Kingston area.
The last limestone home built in the area was constructed with material from a decommissioned Corrections Canada facility. Our Limestone room overlooks that historic house from its secluded deck.
The Limestone room includes:

“Even in winter it shall be green in my heart.” (Frederic Chopin) With this in mind, we decorated this room in varying shades of green to evoke year-round the beauty of the gardens outside.

Luxurious, private spa bathroom with rainhead shower
René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, is credited as one of the first explorers of the Great Lakes area. This room, with its dedicated spa-like bathroom, is meant to evoke a feeling of escape to a sunny, comfortable, elegant retreat.
The LaSalle room includes:

- Comfortable sitting area and electric fireplace
- Luxurious, private spa bathroom just steps from your room; with rain-head shower and view of downtown Kingston skyline
“How lovely yellow is! It stands for the sun.” (Van Gogh) The décor in this room is meant to bring in the outdoor sunshine.

Martello towers—small, often coastal, forts—were built across the British Empire during the 19th century. Kingston’s five fortifications defended the area during the tense dispute over the southern border in the 1840s. The Martello room, whose turret mimics the shape of these iconic towers, overlooks our beautiful gardens.
The Martello room includes:

- Large seating area in the turret surround, overlooking the gardens and koi pond
- En suite bathroom with walk-in shower
The inspiration for the room is orange: “The sky takes on shades of orange during sunrise and sunset, the colour that gives you hope that the sun will set only to rise again.” (Ram Charan) This room is perfectly suited to enjoying the Kingston skies!

Sitting area with gas stove overlooking the Spire
Molly Brant, of Mohawk descent, was influential in New York and Canada in the era of the American Revolution. For her renowned work as an intermediary between the British and the Iroquois at a particularly fragile time, she was gifted a house and pension in Kingston. The Brant room overlooks the Spire (www.thespirekingston.org), today a recognizable beacon of harmony and acceptance.
The Brant room includes:
